mbed Round Up – July 2016

We’re rounding up the most recent highlights from the ARM mbed team, including a bunch of developer blog posts, a couple of new mbed Enabled™ Platform introductions and an event recap!

Building with BLE

Wirelessly updating your technology is a key requirement for many IoT devices. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is one communication technology that is geared at supporting these resource constrained devices.

We recently received an event report by the mbed team from the Design Automation Conference (DAC) in Austin, TX, where they set up an interesting interactive beacon demo to show off the capabilities of BLE. Attendees picked up a beacon programmed to display their name then, by combining a couple different technologies, the team were able to manipulate the screens on multiple participating ecosystem partner’s booths on the show floor and have it greet attendees by name as they walked by.

Want to strap a beacon to your cat and try this at home? You can get the demo source code at http://www.mbed.com/s/DAC16 and get started! Or read more about the build in this blog post.

New mbed Enabled Platforms

We’re excited to welcome a couple new mbed Enabled platforms to an already long list of mbed compliant hardware.

The Vekatech produced VK-RZ/A1H starter kit uses the ARM Cortex-A9 processor and provides a slew of on-chip functions and interfaces, making it a powerful platform for a wide range of tasks.

The CoCo-ri-Co! module from Elektor has also been welcomed into the mbed Enabled family. It’s a completely open source digital potentiometer module that allows developers to add a rotary control to any project.
